TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said that Indonesia's rank in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) has climbed up. The index, officially released by the World Economic Forum (WEC) on May 24, showed Indonesia climbing 12 spots from 44 to 32.
“Indonesia now ranks at number 32, up by 12 spots, among 117 countries worldwide. We managed to climb 12 spots amid the Covid-19 pandemic," Sandiaga said on May 30.
Sandiaga said that in the Asia Pacific, Indonesia's domestic tourism sector is among the top 10, at the 8th position.
According to Sandiaga, these ranks show how Indonesia's tourism has managed to rise using an effective and efficient budget. Sandiaga also said that he had reported the achievement to President Joko Widodo.
Looking ahead, Sandiaga said his ministry will continue to improve the performances of the tourism and creative economy sectors by studying or evaluating the indicators that trigger economic revival in the tourism sector. "There are 112 indicators and we will also involve other ministries/agencies related to updating the data," he said.
