TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Health of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, and Liberian National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Commission Bobby Whitfield, when attending the Sector Ministers’ Meeting titled Clean Water and Sanitation for All’ in Jakarta commended Indonesia’s commitment to clean water and sanitation.

Whitfield said the Indonesian government’s commitment to this issue “is well known in the West African region” and that “Indonesia has a good reputation in terms of cooperation and investments.”

The discussion held on Thursday, May 19 was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, the Republic of Ghana, Republic of Liberia, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Kamerun, Usra Hendra Harahap.

Harahap asserted that Indonesia will continue to bridge diplomatic actions with West African nations and help provide assistance through the transfer of technology.

In the discussion, Bobby Whitfield and Ambassador Harahap showed a collective willingness to step up bilateral partnerships across multiple sectors. Harahap also mentioned that Indonesia has offered Libera cooperation in education, defense and strategic industries, construction, and sports.

Whitfield also revealed hopes to see the President of Liberia visit Indonesia and meet President Joko Widodo to tighten the strongly-built partnership between both nations.

The bilateral link between Indonesia and Libera can be traced back to 1965. Liberia was also one of the Sub-Saharan African countries that attended the 1955 Asia-Africa Summit in Bandung, West Java.
