TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Toll Road Regulator Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing targetted that the construction of section 2 (two) of the Semarang-Demak toll road can be finished by the end of 2022.

As quoted from BPJT's official website on Friday, May 13, 2022, the Semarang-Demak toll road, which will have a total length of 27 kilometers, will have two intersections and two interchanges, namely Sayung interchange and Demak interchange.

Section 1 of the toll road, which connects Semarang/Kaligawe and Sayung and stretches for 10.69 kilometers, is being constructed by the government and targeted to be completed in 2024. Meanwhile, section 2 of the toll road, which connects Sayung and Demak and stretches for 16.31 kilometers, is being constructed by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Pembangunan Perumahan Semarang Demak and had reached 80.63 percent completion.

The construction of the Semarang-Demak toll road will be integrated with sea embankment and strengthened by 17 layers of bamboo mattress foundations.

In addition to the bamboo mattress system, the strengthening of the land condition is also conducted by installing prefabricated vertical drains and using sea sand as materials for the road piling.

In the future, the Semarang-Demak toll road is hoped to improve the connectivity of toll roads network and main regions on the northern part of Java.

The toll road will also serves as protection against flash flood, and to prevent flood and standing water, which have become the major problem in regions around Semarang.

The toll road is also expected to help in driving economic growth in Central Java.

In an effort to minimize the negative environmental effect of the Semarang-Demak toll road construction, the PUPR Ministry also cooperates with the regional government in preparing a relocation program for 3 (three) mangrove areas located around the construction area of section 1 of the toll road.
