TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday announced that it is monitoring the movement of the Karim tropical cyclone that is currently located over the Indian Ocean, southwest off the coast of Bengkulu.

The power of the storm itself, the agency reports, can grow to a maximum of 50 knots with core pressures reaching 986hPa.

Despite predicting its path that would move to the southern-southeastern area further away from Indonesia, the tropical storm’s intensity will likely increase significantly within the next 24 hours.

A convergence area elongates from North Kalimantan to the Sulawesi Sea; from East Kalimantan up to the northern part of Sulawesi; from the north Sulawesi area up to North Maluku. Other convergence areas are also detected over Aceh, Malaka Strait, Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Papua, and Papua.

This condition will potentially generate rain clouds to grow in the perimeter of the tropical cyclone or convergence areas. Regions that are forecasted to experience rainstorm on Tuesday, May 10, include Yogyakarta, Banjarmasin, and Manado.
