Jokowi Inaugurates New KPU, Bawaslu Members

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, on Tuesday, April 12, inaugurated members of the General Election Commission (KPU) and Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) for the new term who will be carrying out their tasks from this year to 2027. The President had announced his plans two days ago in preparation for the 2024 general elections (Pemilu).
“We have talked to the KPU and Bawaslu thoroughly in preparing for the simultaneous election,” said the President at the Merdeka Palace on April 10.
Previously, the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II members inaugurated seven KPU and five Bawaslu on Thursday, February 17. The following are profiles of the KPU members inaugurated today:
- Betty Epsilon Idroos
Betty is the only elected female member. This 43-year-old woman is the Chairperson of the DKI Jakarta KPU from 2018 to 2023.
- Hasyim Asy'ari
Hasyim is the only incumbent and doctor of political sociology at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, and was a member of the KPU for Central Java Province from 2003 to 2008.
- Mochamad Afifuddin
Afifuddin is a member of Bawaslu for the 2017-2022 term. In this term, he decided to register as a member of the KPU. He said that he intends to eliminate the tension between the KPU and Bawaslu that has often occurred.
- Parsadaan Harahap
Persadan is the Chair of the Bengkulu Province Bawaslu 2012-2022 (2 terms). He also was a member of the Bengkulu Province KPU for the 2003-2008 and 2008-2012 terms, as well as the Chairman of the Bengkulu Province KPU for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2017 terms.
- Yulianto Sudrajat
Yulianto was the Chairman of the Central Java KPU for the 2018-2023 term, and a member of the Sukoharjo Regency KPU for 2 terms from 2008 to 2018.
- Idham Holik
Idham is a member of the TPD (Regional Examination Team) overseeing the Violation of the Code of Ethics for General Election Organizers in Provinces in Indonesia for the 2021-2022 term. He is also a member of West Java Provincial KPU in the period 2018-present.
- August Melasz
August is the Executive Director of the Election and Democracy Syndicate (SPD) for the selection team for regional Bawaslu members and an orientation facilitator for KPU ranks.
The following are profiles for Bawaslu-elect members:
- Lolly Suhenty
Lolly is a member of the West Java Bawaslu 2017-202 and a DPD expert for the 2010-2018 term. She is also the Executive Secretary of the Indonesian Parliamentary Women's Caucus (KPP RI) Public Policy Advocacy Division of the National Secretariat of the Indonesian Women's Coalition.
- Puadi
Puadi is a member of the DKI Jakarta Bawaslu since 2017. In addition, he was also the Regional Inspector Team (TPD) of the DKPP Chairperson of the West Jakarta Panwaslu in 2012.
- Rahmat Bagja
Rahmat is a member of the RI Bawaslu for the 2017-2022 period and an expert at the DPR's Honorary Court (MKD). He was also an assistant advocate for the Widjojanto Law Office
- Totok Hariyono
Totok is Deputy Chair of the Malang Regency Legislative and Presidential Election Panwaslu. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Arema Morning Daily.
- Herwyn Jefler Hielsa Malonda
Herwyn has been serving as the Chair of the North Sulawesi Bawaslu since 2012 and was the Coordinator for Monitoring the EMC SBSI Election in 1999. He was also the Deputy Chair of the Minahasa Panwaslu from 2003 to 2004, and the Chair of the Minahasa Panwaslu in 2005, 2007-2008, and a member of the Minahasa KPU from 2008-to 2012.
