TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Presidential Staff Office (KSP) main expert staffer, Abraham Wirotomo, on Wednesday claimed the current pandemic situation that is mostly driven by the spread of Omicron variant is still under control, despite the country logged a record high on Tuesday with 57,049 additional cases.

Tuesday’s addition exceeded the peak of the Delta variant outbreak on July 15, 2021, which recorded 56,000 cases. He explained that the positivity from the government comes from the low statistics on hospitalization.

"This refers to the hospital bed occupancy ratio nationwide which is at 30 percent as of February 13, 2022," said Abraham in his statement on February 16.

According to him, five regions with the highest hospital bed occupation rate were Jakarta (54 percent), Bali (48 percent), Banten (45 percent), West Java (44 percent), and South Sumatra (30 percent).

"These numbers show that the situation is more under control compared to when we faced the Delta, where the bed occupancy ratio reached 90 percent. But we have to remain vigilant," said Abraham.

Sixty-five percent of Covid-19 hospitalizations, he went on, consisted of patients who were asymptomatic and showed mild symptoms. He also affirmed that the government made the decision regarding the Covid-19 pandemic based on scientific studies and not emotional or political decisions.
