TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on Tuesday was present at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing factory in Karawang, West Java to inaugurate the factory’s 2 million export to Australia. During this event, the President noted that the pandemic has opened new opportunities to reach new markets similar to what the Japanese manufacturer had achieved.

However, he urged manufacturers to take extra caution in exporting products as this means it will compete with other products from car manufacturing countries. “We are not alone in the market and must continue to compete,” said Jokowi.

He believes the 2 millionth export proves Indonesia’s manpower quality and ability to manufacture vehicles.

According to the Industry Ministry’s data, Indonesia’s automotive manufacturing industry has exported products to 80 countries in four continents with domestic content levels in each exports reaching 75 percent.

“This is very commendable to enliven small businesses in our country,” said the President.

Present in the event were president directors of Toyota Astra Motor, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, and Astra International. Among them was Japan’s Ambassador for Indonesia Kanasugi Kenji.
