World Bank: G20 Countries Must Prepare for Next Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The World Bank's Managing Director, Mari Elka Pangestu, said G20 countries must prepare for future pandemics that might come after Covid-19.
"The current focus no longer resides in Covid-19, but the next pandemic," she said during the T20 Inception Conference, Wednesday, February 9.
Therefore, it needs to consider the policy to prepare for the next pandemics, the gaps that need to be addressed in various countries, and the financing that come up with it. Mari said that a long-term plan is necessary.
She said the main point in facing the Covid-19 pandemic is how to have an integrated approach that recognizes the link between people, the planet, and the economy. So the countries can achieve growth; whether it is renewable energies, green technologies, and creating jobs, that paying attention to the climate and inclusively.
Furthermore, she reckoned the role of women in a tough and inclusive development, as they are the most impacted by Covid-19. Technology and innovation will also play important roles especially for digitalization, the green economy, and so on.
