TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is preparing to lead discussions and cooperation on sustainable energy transition at the G20 Presidency. In this event, Indonesia prioritizes three main issues, viz. the transition to sustainable energy, the world health system, and economic and digital transformation.

“Regarding the energy transition, the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) focuses on energy security, energy access and efficiency, as well as the energy transition to a low-carbon energy system, including investment and innovation in cleaner and more efficient technologies,” said the ministry’s spokesman Agung Pribadi in a press release, Tuesday, January 25.

Agung said the G20 Presidency is divided into two workstreams, namely the Sherpa Track and the Financial Track.

Working groups on the Sherpa Track discuss non-financial economic issues, ranging from agriculture, digital economy, education, labor, tourism, development, energy transition, environment and climate change, trade, investment, and industry, anti-corruption, health, and women's empowerment.

Meanwhile, Financial Track focuses on economic issues, exit policies for global economic recovery post the pandemic, the impact of COVID-19 on the real sector, digital payment systems, sustainable finance, financial inclusion, and international taxation.

The government on Monday, January 24, appointed Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani as the spokesperson for the Sherpa Track and Financial Track meetings at the G20 Presidency, respectively.
