TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta increased by 1,993 on January 24. The city Health Agency’s head of the disease prevention and control unit Dwi Oktavia said the addition of infections was dominated by local transmission.

“New positive cases based on the results of the PCR test today increased by 1,993, 1,861 of which (93.4 percent) are local transmissions,” said Dwi in a written statement on Monday, January 24.

The number of Omicron cases also jumped. As of yesterday, 1,584 patients were exposed to the variant of concern; 854 were foreign travelers and 459 were being local transmissions.

Prior to Tuesday’s data, Jakarta detected 1,313 Omicron cases. This means there were an additional 271 cases in a day.

Dwi continued the number of active cases rose by 1,431. As many as 10,488 patients were still being treated or undergoing isolation.

Jakarta has thus far recorded 881,300 cases. Of that number, 857,215 patients have recovered and 13,597 patients died. The recovery rate thus stood at 97.3 percent, while the mortality rate was 1.5 percent.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in the past week reached 7.5 percent, above the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation of less than 5 percent. “And the total positivity rate is 10.8 percent.”
