Jakarta Education Agency Reveals Vaccine Hesitancy Among Parents

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Education Agency spokesperson Taga Radja Gah on Tuesday said the agency still found vaccine hesitancy among parents in the capital city as children aged between 6-11 years old are subjected to the city’s vaccination program introduced on December 14.
"There are those who refuse, even though I do not have the actual data. But there are parents who did not give permission for their children to be vaccinated,” said Taga to Tempo on January 11. “The current [vaccination rate] is 55.90 percent.”
The Jakarta Education Agency data as of January 11 shows vaccinated school children amounted to 404,192 from the agency’s goal of inoculating 723,044 children against Covid-19.
Taga said they still do not know the reasons why the parents refuse the vaccination for their children. In terms of the type of the vaccine, Jakarta is using Sinovac vaccines to inoculate children within the aforementioned age demographic.
The program targets to vaccinate 26.5 million children nationwide. In particular, in the regions that have met certain requirements such as 70 percent first-dose vaccination rate and 60 percent vaccination rate for elderly people.
