Sri Mulyani: New Capital Project Won't Hinder Economic Recovery Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati hoped the infrastructure development of the new capital city could be a starting point for economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. The calculation and fulfillment of the project needs, she said, would remain in line with fiscal consolidation after the pandemic.
“The government will ensure that this funding does not interfere with the COVID-19 handling and the economic recovery program,” said Sri in a written statement, Friday, January 7.
According to Sri, President Joko Widodo was determined to prioritize the COVID-19 handling and the economic recovery in 2022. In the 2023 State Budget, the priority will be economic recovery and state budget consolidation.
The state budget, she added, must be maintained carefully in order to keep various state needs safe, such as for the COVID-19 handling, economic recovery, social safety net, and global turmoil anticipation.
“On the other hand, there are national priorities including the development of the national capital. This is a factor that will dominate our budget drafting in 2022. Everything is balanced,” Sri Mulyani said.
