Omicron Rises Hospital Bed Occupancy Rate in Jakarta to 7 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria, revealed the increase of bed occupancy rate at the hospitals due to Omicron transmission.

"Currently, the occupancy rate increased to 7 percent from previously 4 percent. The ICU [occupancy rate] also increased to 5 percent, this is our concern," said the Deputy Governor at the City Hall, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, January 5.

According to the Riza, people that are confirmed to be positive of having Omicron must undergo isolation at Wisma Atlet and Sulianti Saroso Hospital. He also reminds those who are travelling abroad to remain vigilant and always wear masks.

To this day, there has been no case of death due to the Omicron variant. The latest government data showed approximately 252 people found to be positive of the latest Covid-19 variant.

He explained the Omicron is not as severe as the Delta variant. The patients infected with the new variant of concern did not show severe symptoms as in the Delta variant. Some of them were even asymptomatic.
