TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of former employees of the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) visited the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to file a report on their dismissal following the merger into the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN).

“This dismissal hits us hard, especially during the pandemic,” said the representative of the former employees, Rudy Hidayat, in the Komnas HAM office, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 5.

According to him, hundreds of non-state apparatus or non-PNS employees were discharged. They now joined the non-PNS employees association. Rudi argued that the dismissal was carried out without enough dissemination. “We have attempted to discuss it with leaders in BPPT but received no satisfactory answers,” he added.

Rudy, who has worked in BPPT for 16 years, claimed he did not ask for severance pay but hoped to be hired at the research institute.

Komnas HAM commissioner member Beka Ulung Hapsara, meanwhile, said his agency would first look into the report and ask for clarification from BRIN regarding the fate of the former employees and the merger scheme. “We will ask BRIN,” said Beka.
