TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - First Lady Iriana Jokowi and Second Lady Wury Estu Handayani along with members of the Solidarity Act Organization for the Indonesia Onward Cabinet (OASE KIM) met with survivors of sexual abuse at the Center for Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS), West Bandung, Tuesday, December 21.
Assisted by psychologists, 12 survivors and a witness had a dialogue with Iriana and Wury. Iriana expressed her sadness for what happened to the survivors.
She hoped such sorrowful incidents would not recur. “As a woman, I am really hurt. I hope there will be no more victims,” said Iriana in a written statement, Tuesday, December 21.
Cases of violence against children with various motives were recently rampant. The latest was a rape case against dozens of students at the Manarul Huda Islamic boarding school, Bandung.
“The law must be applied firmly and harshly [against perpetrators], and they must be punished severely according to their immoral acts,” she underlined.
During the meeting, Iriana Jokowi and Wury Estu Handayani were accompanied by OASE KIM chairperson Erni Tjahjo Kumolo and the wife of West Java Governor Atalia Praratya Kamil.
