Indonesia Receives Over 1.9mn Doses of AstraZeneca

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia received another shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines on Sunday evening, 5 December, amounting to more than 1.9 million doses. According to the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Usman Kansong, the vaccines were procured through a direct purchase mechanism.
"With the 147th arrival of vaccines in the form of 1,932,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, Indonesia has so far received 395,544,580 doses, both in finished and bulk forms,” Usman said on Monday, December 6.
Usman stated that the arrival of the vaccine was to maintain stock stability for the smooth running of the Covid-19 vaccination program.
The government hopes that by year-end 80 percent of the vaccination target would have at least got the first doses, and 60 percent fully inoculated.
Usman appealed to the public not to wait for any specific brand and get vaccinated immediately. The longer you wait, he said, the higher the chances of getting infected.
"That's why, the government continues to try to increase the vaccine rollout coverage, so that more people are vaccinated, protected, and herd immunity is reached immediately," said Usman.
