TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Immigration announced the temporary ban on the entry of foreign nationals from 8 African countries, which is mainly to prevent the new omicron variant from entering Indonesia. However, G20 members are exempted from this ban.
This was announced in a statement by the director-general of immigration Widodo Ekatjahjana on November 27 after Indonesia had been appointed to hold the presidency of the G20 with events scheduled to start from December 1 leading to the G20 summit in November 2022.
The temporary ban will also be imposed on foreign nationals who recently visited South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Eswatini, and Nigeria.
Those who spent at least 14 days in the aforementioned countries are also barred from entering Indonesia until the situation improves. Exempting G20 members, the Immigration office has also temporarily suspended granting limited stay and travel visas for foreign nationals.
