Constitutional Court Orders Govt to Revise Job Creation Law

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Constitutional Court (MK) has decided today that Job Creation Law or Law No. 11 of 2020 is contrary to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. The omnibus law is also declared to be a non-legally binding policy.
Chief judge Anwar Usman read the court’s ruling on Thursday, November 25, which was broadcasted live via the court’s YouTube channel. He said the changes must be done within two years since the decision is issued, or it would be deemed "permanently unconstitutional".
The ruling also states that the law will remain in effect until the revisions are made within the time frame.
The court has also suspended all strategic and broad-impact actions or policies and dismissed any new regulations related to the Job Creation Law.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government would immediately follow up on the Constitutional Court’s ruling.
“The government will immediately follow up on the court's ruling by preparing for the law amendment and carry out other court’s orders the best we can,” Airlangga said in a press briefing today.
