TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) outlines via its official site bmkg.go.id signs of possible heavy rains and hails.

Hail and heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are common in Indonesia. The phenomenon often occurs during the transitional period, either from the dry to the rainy season or vice versa.

The agency explains that when the air gets humid and hot at night until the morning, heavy rain and hail may possibly follow that day. The stifling heat is caused by quite strong solar radiation and high humidity.

Starting at 10 a.m., cumulus clouds begin to grow and will quickly change color to gray or black, or known as Cumulonimbus clouds (Cb). Trees will also sway quickly in a gust of cold air.

The first rain usually occurs as a sudden heavy downpour. If the first rain falls as drizzles, there are possible strong winds going far from where we are.

Additionally, if there is no rain for one to three consecutive days during the transitional period, there is a potential for heavy rain followed by strong winds, either or not they are categorized as tornados.
