TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday conveyed his appreciation for teachers in the national teacher’s day that is commemorated every November 25. He lauded teachers’ dedication that has adapted their teachings amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

“For nearly two years under the pandemic, our education has preserved thanks to the innovation, creativity, and dedication of our teachers who watches over our younger generation,” said Jokowi in his instagram post on November 25.

He also called for everyone to work together in containing the spread of Covid-19 and help the nation recover again, including academics.

“Let us all hold hands to collectively recover the education system,” he said.

The commemoration of National Teacher's Day refers to the history of the founding of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI), November 25, 1945. The national commemoration for this is stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 78 of 1994 concerning the Anniversary of PGRI.
