TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has decided to tighten its restriction on public mobility ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, which is why the public activity restriction (PPKM) Level 3 will be imposed.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a government coordination meeting on Wednesday in Jakarta said the government must learn from the Covid-19 wave that unfortunately is happening in other international communities in Europe and the United States.

“Be extra cautious. I will remind you again what is happening in Europe and the United States where Covid-19 is growing by the emergence of the second, third, and fourth wave,” said the President.

He added that the government intends to ensure the pandemic in Indonesia is controlled, and limiting public mobility during an annual holiday will help the country recover quicker in health and economy.

Jokowi reminded meeting participants that the Covid-19 pandemic which first entered the country in March of 2020 has deeply affected the economy and healthcare. One of the main keys to solve surrounding issues caused by the pandemic is to control the spread of the virus through PPKM measures.
