Jakarta Police to Enforce Crowd Free Night on New Year's Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police will again enforce a crowd-free night policy on New Year's Eve in a number of areas throughout the city. The Traffic Police Director Sr. Come. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the policy is aimed at suppressing the COVID-19 transmission during the year-end holidays.

“We’re planning to re-impose a crowd-free night on new year’s eve,” said Sambodo as quoted by Antara in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 23.

The restrictions will be implemented along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin and around the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout area, as well as several crowded areas such as Ancol, TMII, and East Flood Canal.

According to Sambodo, the policy will be enforced in a bid to curb COVID-19 transmission, given that the positive cases usually increase every long holiday.

“There is always a significant spike in COVID-19 cases after a long holiday,” he added.

The implementation of the crowd-free night policy will be in line with the simultaneous enforcement of public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 3 throughout Indonesia from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2022, in an effort to limit people’s activity during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
