Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy announced that the government will impose the public mobility restriction or PPKM Level 3 for all regions during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays.

“During Christmas and New Year holidays, all of Indonesia will be under PPKM Level 3,” said Muhadjir in a written statement, Thursday, November 18.

He said the policy was aimed at tightening the movement of people and preventing a spike in COVID-19 cases after the year-end holidays. All regions, both under PPKM Level 1 and 2, will enforce the PPKM Level 3 in the same way.

“There has been an agreement that the rules in Java and Bali and outside Java-Bali will be uniformed later,” Muhadjir stated.

The PPKM Level 3 will take effect from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2021, pending the instruction of the Home Affairs Minister.

Under the previous PPKM Level 3, the places of worship can open at a maximum of 50 percent capacity, cinemas and restaurants can operate at 50 percent capacity, shopping centers can also operate until 9 p.m. at 50 percent capacity under strict health protocols, and public places such as city squares and fields are not closed.

Muhadjir went on to say that fireworks and parades in celebration of the new year that attract large crowds are prohibited. Meanwhile, rules on religious activities, tourist visits, and shopping centers will adjust the PPKM Level 3.

“This policy is necessary to curb and prevent COVID-19 transmission while maintaining the economy. Tightening and monitoring the health protocols are also carried out at a number of destinations, particularly churches, shopping centers, and local tourist sites,” Muhadjir said.
