TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Thursday said that the upcoming 2022 G20 Presidency will have a real impact towards Indonesia’s economy and is expected to increase domestic consumption up to US$119.2 million (Rp1.7 trillion in current exchange).

“It will also generate US$533 million for Indonesia’s GDP, which is a real implication of hosting the international event,” said Sri Mulyani in a webinar on November 11.

It is hoped that hosting this event will create thousands of new employment opportunities across a number of regions.

Officially, Indonesia will host the G20 presidency starting on December 1, 2021 and last until November of 2022, touting the main theme of “recover together, recover stronger.” However, she said the government is highly aware that the execution will depend on how the country manages its Covid-19 situation all year round.

From December this year to November next year, there will be 150 meetings held along with more supporting activities related to it with delegations expected to be reaching the hundreds for each summit and over 5,000 throughout the year.

Sri Mulyani believes the G20 Presidency will be a crucial forum for Indonesia to showcase its economy amid continuous structural reform despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
