Malaysian PM Begins Indonesia Tour

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prime Minister of Malaysia Ismail Sabri Yaakob will go on his first tour to Indonesia from November 9 to 11. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob would be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Saifuddin Abdullah, Senior Minister of Defense Hishamuddin Hussein, Minister of Finance Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and other officials from relevant ministries.

"The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a meeting with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo," officials said in Putrajaya, Tuesday, November 9.

The meeting between Ismail Sabri and Jokowi will be held at the Bogor Palace on Wednesday. Jokowi was in quarantine in Bogor for 3 days after returning from his trip to Rome, Glasgow and Abu Dhabi on November 5, 2021.

This official visit will open a new chapter in the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"This will give the two leaders an opportunity to explore cooperation opportunities in efforts to recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The two leaders will also discuss important developments in the region in the context of ASEAN cooperation, as well as challenges that impact security, growth and development, as well as regional prosperity," he said.

The Malaysian PM is also scheduled to hold meetings with the trade community and key industry players in Indonesia, the editor in chief of Indonesian publications, the Malaysian diaspora in Indonesia. He is also scheduled to witness the signing of several memorandums of cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri will also visit the defense industry facilities in Bandung.
