TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The fourth day of the XVI National Paralympic Games in Papua (Peparnas Papua) on Monday saw multiple records broken across three competing sporting categories that consists of swimming, weightlifting, and athletics.

There were at least five national records broken on the first day of the Games held at the Kampung Harapan Aquatic Arena at the Jayapura District starting from the men’s and women’s 50-meter breaststroke of the S6 classification by debutant from Riau, M Gerry Pahker who logged at time of 44.32. His time broke the previous national record by Toif Fauzi of 48.02 set in 2016.

Meanwhile, Siti Alfiah from Central Java logged a time of 52.44 seconds which toppled a previous record by Riyanti in 2018 of 59.15 seconds.

Another national record was broken by Laras Safitri Permatasari at the women’s 100-meter (S12) who logged a time of 1 minute 24.23 seconds and breaking a previous record of 1 minute 31.27 seconds.

The women’s 100-meter swimming (S15) record was also broken by West Javan Naila Puja Rislani by setting a record of 1 minute 12.63 seconds, beating a previous record of 1 minute 16.03 seconds set in 2016.

Another broken national record at the National Paralympics Games in Papua was set by South Kalimantan’s Norlatifah in the 50-meter backstroke classification (S9) by logging a best of 43.83 seconds, toppling the previous record of 44.37 seconds set by Laura Aurelia DInda in 2016.

Papua still leads the board as the first day of the Game saw the region win 7 gold medals.
