TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi visited the Jubail Mangrove Park in Al Jubail Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Wednesday, November 3. There, he planted mangrove seeds together with Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.

Jubail Mangrove Park is the first mangrove park in Abu Dhabi. Spanning 120,000 square meters, the park opened at the end of January last year.

Jokowi made the visit to Jubail Mangrove Park after meeting Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) at Al-Shatie Palace. Jokowi and his entourage arrived at the Park around 17:15 local time. He was welcomed by Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei and Jubail Island Investment Company president director Mounir Haidar.

The mangrove planting is carried out to raise awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the important ecological functions of mangrove habitats, which include protecting Abu Dhabi's coastline and supporting biodiversity.

Last month, President Jokowi planted mangroves with a number of ambassadors from friendly countries and the residents of Bebatu Village, Sesayap Hilir District, Tana Tidung Regency, North Kalimantan.
