TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a CEOs forum with major investors from the United Kingdom said he is optimistic Indonesia will fulfill its commitment to unconditionally reduce emissions by 29 percent in 2030, as it is overseen by the Paris Agreement.

“Indonesia has adopted the low-carbon long-term strategy and climate tenacity of 2050 and a detailed roadmap in order to achieve the net zero emission goal by 2060, or earlier,” said the President in the informal meeting in Glasgow, Scotland on the morning of November 1.

He reasserts the importance of synchronizing climate policies between developed and developing countries and every stakeholder to commit to a robust strategy for managing climate change.

According to the President, one main aspect is the financial support that needs to be disbursed to developing countries to help fund transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy. He conveyed his hopes for fulfillment of the US$100 billion adaptation funds from developed nations to accelerate climate change mitigation.

President Jokowi once again said that Indonesia has showcased real evidence of mitigating climate change and claims deforestation rate is at its lowest in the past 20 years, reducing forest fires by 82 percent, and restoring 64,000 hectares of mangrove forests.
