Luhut Meets Boris Johnson to Talk G20, Deforestation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in London, October 28, 2021. The two discussed a number of topics, from the climate change Conference of the Parties (COP26), the G20 Summit, deforestation, to cooperation in new and renewable energy.
Johnson reportedly praised the way indonesia handles deforestation. "Indonesia has done an extraordinary job in tackling deforestation," he said as reported in written statement from the Forestry Ministry, Friday, October 29.
Luhut was accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra Percaya. During the meeting, Luhut proposed to establish a high-level dialogue between Indonesia and the UK, as well as a task force to expedite the implementation of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
According to Luhut, Johnson agreed to the cooperation mechanism suggested and supports it. He also specifically mentioned several areas of cooperation, such as green technology and new and renewable energy.
President Joko Widodo is also scheduled to meet with Boris Johnson. The two will have an official bilateral meeting at the COP26.
