PCR Price Cap Lowered at Rp275,000; Govt to Sanction Lab Violating New Rule

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government on Thursday has officially lowered the cost for real-time polymer chain reaction (RT-PCR) test to Rp275,000 (roughly US$21) for areas within the Java-Bali regions and Rp300,000 for areas outside of Java and Bali.
According to the Covid-19 task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, the government will supervise private laboratories to make sure the regulation is followed, Bisnis.com reported.
“The final sanction is by closing down the lab and revoking its operational permit if the latest rule is not followed,” said the spokesperson in a virtual press conference on October 28.
The PCR upper price ceiling is overseen by the Health Ministry’s circular following a thorough evaluation. Adisasmito said the aspects of consideration in the cost reduction includes the services components, reagents, administrative costs, overhead, and more.
The latest rule also mandates that labs must produce results within 24 hours after a person has undergone a swab test.
