Megawati: President Can Only Serve Two Terms

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), expected that her party would always gain public trust. She said PDIP has won the election twice thus far.

“I always say, is there a rule that we cannot win all the time?” said Mega at the inauguration of Bung Karno MSME Park held virtually on Thursday, October 28.

Mega said that PDIP is allowed to win every election. However, there is still something that remains limited, which is the term of office of the president. “A president can only serve two terms. But if the party continues to win, there are no rules against it,” she remarked.

Megawati said that victory is what is expected in every election event. She wanted PDIP to keep existing as long as Indonesia stands. “Inshallah, this party will continue to exist as long as the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia exists,” she said.
