Yogyakarta Reopens Tourism in Gunungkidul as PPKM Eased

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Tourism Agency of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta, announced that dozens of tourist destinations in the region were reopened starting this week following the relaxing public mobility restrictions or PPKM from level 3 to 2.

Gunungkidul Regency Government had determined dozens of sites allowed to welcome tourists under various restrictions and health protocols as noted in detail in the Circular No. 556/4825 concerning the reopening of tourism in Gunungkidul.

Secretary of the Gunungkidul Tourism Agency, Hary Sukmono, said tourist sites could operate at 25 percent of the normal capacity. “Tourist sites must also have access to the PeduliLindungi app's QR Code,” Hary told Tempo on Wednesday, October 20.

Reopened tourist sites include Gesing Beach, Siung Beach, Baron-Seruni Beach, Wediombo Beach, Ngrenehan Beach, Ngedan Beach, and Timang Beach, Pindul Cave, Luweng Sampang, Bejiharjo Edupark, Cerme Cave, Embung Sriten.

Ancient Volcano Nglanggeran, Mount Gentong, Mount Gambar, Watu Gupit, Sri Gethuk Bleberan, Wanasadi Forest, Gedangsari Green Village, Batu Mulo Park, Cempluk Kesamben, Mount Ireng, Kalisuci Cave Tubing, Jonge Lake, Embung Bembem Tourism Park, Beton Dam area, and Teras Kaca may also reopen. “Tourist sites to reopen are located outdoors, such as beaches and mountains,” Hary added.

In addition to the capacity limit and mandatory PeduliLindungi app, tourists must first book a reservation through the Visiting Jogja app. “This method is aimed at screening tourists,” said the Yogyakarta Tourism Agency Head Singgih Raharjo.
