TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo planted mangrove trees together with locals and a number of foreign ambassadors at the North Kalimantan Province, specifically at the Bebatu Village in Tana Tidung Regency.

During the event, the President explained that the province has 180 hectares of mangrove forests set to be rehabilitated by the government. Jokowi added that the government is aiming to rehabilitate 600 thousand hectares within the next three years.

"Within the next three years, we will rehabilitate 600 thousand hectares from 3.6 million hectares of mangrove forests, which is the largest in the world," said the President in a statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat Press Bureau, Media, and Information on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Along with the President, foreign Ambassadors were also present in the event, namely Czech Republic Ambassador to Indonesia Jaroslav Dolecek and his wife; the Chilean Ambassador Gustavo Nelson Ayares Ossandón; Ambassador of Finland ari Sinkari; Swiss Ambassador Kurt Kunz; Deputy Ambassador of Brazil Daniel Barra Ferreira, and the World Bank Country Director Satu Kahkonen.

A number of government officials were also present, among others: Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, State Secretary Pratikno, North Kalimantan Governor Zainal Arifin Paliwang, and Tana Tidung Regent Ibrahim Ali.
