TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Java's popular tourist destination Mount Bromo has once again been closed for the public as of October 5, after it had just announced its reopening a month ago on September 6. Bromo management said it is temporarily closed until further notice.

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) acting chairperson Novita Kusuma Wardani on Tuesday confirmed that the closure directly follows the Home Affairs Minister’s Instruction No.47/2021, which mandated the closure of the entire tourism area inside the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park starting on October 5.

Citing Antaranews, Novita explained that the closure aimed to curb the effects and risks related to the spread of Covid-19 within the tourism spot. She asserted that it was unrelated to the current circumstance in the area.

“There are no Covid-19 clusters, the closure of the TNBTS refers to the Home Affairs Ministry’s Instruction,” she said.

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is uniquely located in the borders of Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Lumajang, and Malang. The entrance gates into the national park are spread in Pasuruan and Probolinggo.

A total of 7,904 people, with 26 of them being international tourists, have visited the Bromo National Park since its reopening on September 6.
