Bank Indonesia Reports on MSMEs Growth in Papua

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There are reportedly 100 MSMEs or micro, small, and medium enterprises that participated in the Jayapura coffee festival organized by the Bank Indonesia representative office in Papua, which coincides with the National Games (PON).

According to Bank Indonesia Papua Chief Naek Tigor Sinaga on Monday, the festival that was held since Sunday saw the small businesses sell culinary products, accessories, fashion products, and others. According to Bank Indonesia records, MSMEs in Papua contribute 63 percent to the local economy.

“The festival is held from Sunday in support of the 20th PON in Papua,” said Naek on October 4, Antaranews reported.

There are at least 400 MSMEs involved in the National Games event promoting products that are uniquely Papuan.

Bank Indonesia and the banking industry and payment system service providers have grown the number of merchants from 31 thousand in 2020 to 75 thousand merchants this year. Eighty five percent of them are located in four clusters of the PON event in Jayapura city, Jayapura regency, Mimika regency, and Merauke regency.
