TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The upcoming World Food Forum (WFF) 2021 will be involving youths in order to help transform the agri-food system and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, in order to engage change in creating better food for the future, the youth must be engaged.

“I firmly believe that the sooner (we) empower the youth, to be active in the transformation of our agri-food system, we can achieve the world in which our men, women and kids, have enough nutritions and health,” said the Director-General, at The World Food Forum Press Conference, Wednesday, August 29, 2021.

Along with the FAO Director-General, the FAO Chair of Youth Committee and Chief Economist Maximo Torero who also attended the event, stated that concrete actions need to be done to bring better food for the future.

“Align with the UN Food Systems Summit 2021, the World Food Forum is bringing people from diverse sectors around the world to raise awareness and identify solutions to better food future for all,” said Torero, which he then added, “the World Food Forum of action is bringing together youth, science, data and innovation altogether in different areas that we will be working on.”

According to Maximo Torero, his party will be looking at transformative research challenges which aim to inspire research and innovations in sustainable development to end hunger, transform agri-food systems, bringing new ideas and mentorship for the youths, innovation masterclass series, and many more.

The World Food Forum 2021 will be starting on Friday, October 1 until October 5, 2021. It will gather youth to drive awareness, foster engagement, and mobilize youth-led action in support of agri-food systems transformation.
