TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the provincial government would formulate sanctions for stores that still display cigarette advertisements. He added that the time would come to impose the sanctions.

“We will gradually regulate the mechanism and the sanctions,” said Riza at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Friday, September 17.

Jakarta Public Order Agency or Satpol PP has taken off cigarette advertisements in minimarkets in West Jakarta areas. Jakarta Satpol PP head Arifin said the termination of tobacco ads was the implementation of the Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation or Pergub No. 148 of 2017.

The Pergub 148/2017 noted about the billboard or advertising guidelines but did not stipulate sanctions for violators.

However, Riza hoped that the public would have the good discipline not because there were sanctions or supervision from the authority. People, he underlined, must be aware of obeying the rules and consider it a necessity.

“Not because there are sanctions or officers so we get to be disciplined,” said Riza.
