Jokowi Ratifies Islamic Boarding School Presidential Regulation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday officially ratified the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No.82/2021 which oversees the funding for Islamic boarding school (pesantren) management. The regulation was made effective on September 2.

Article 4 of this latest regulation oversees the funding of boarding schools that can be sourced from society, central government, regional government, and other legal non-binding sources. It also organizes endowments for pesantrens.

The non-binding legal funding explains that it can come in the form of domestic and international grants, business entities, internal financing, corporate social responsibility, and trust funds.

Article 23 of the Perpres oversees endowments that are sourced from academic endowments overseen by the constitution that guarantees the continuity of Islamic boarding school academic programs for future generations.
