TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As a vast country, Indonesia has many toll roads stretching up to hundreds of kilometers. Soon, North Sulawesi will have the longest highway in the province.

The Public Works and Housing Ministry targeted the Manado-Bitung toll road to be operational by the end of this year. The 39.9-kilometer highway links many toll roads, namely Manado toll, Airmadidi toll, Kauditan toll, and Danowudu toll.

Here is the list of Indonesia’s seven longest highways:

1. Terpeka Toll Road

Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung or Terpeka highway is Indonesia’s longest highway, covering a length of 189 kilometers. It connects two provinces, Lampung and South Sumatra.

Inaugurated two years ago, the highway also recorded by the Indonesian Records Museum (MURI) as the fastest toll road construction, which was completed within 2.5 years.

2. Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar Toll Road

The 140.94-kilometer long toll road is the country’s second-longest highway. It stretches from Bakauheni Ferry Port in South Lampung Regency to Terbanggi Besar in Central Lampung Regency.

3. Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road

The highway with a length of approximately 131 kilometers is the third-longest highway in the archipelago, as quoted from khinfraktur.com. It began operating in early 2020.

4. Cikampek-Palimanan Toll Road

This fourth-longest highway is familiarly known as Cipali toll road. Expanding for 116.75 kilometers, the highway has been in operation since June 2015.

The Cipali highway is also recorded as the fourth-longest highway on the Java island, connecting Cikopo, Subang, Purwakarta, and Palimanan. The highway is also part of the Trans Java Toll Road.

5. Jakarta-Merak Toll Road

The Jakarta-Merak toll road with a track length of up to 98 kilometers ranks as the country’s fifth-longest highway. Citing from p2k.itbu.ac.id, the toll road was built in 1984, linking Jakarta and Merak Port in Cilegon, Banten.

6. Solo-Ngawi Toll Road

Passing through Boyolali, Karanganyar Regency, Sragen Regency, and Ngawi Regency, Solo-Ngawi highway is the country’s sixth-longest highway. It covers a length of 90.43 kilometers.

Many toll roads are linked to the highway including Semarang-Solo toll in the west and Ngawi-Kertosono toll in the east.

7. Ngawi-Kertosono Toll Road

The Ngawi-Kertosono Toll Road ranks as the seventh-longest highway in Indonesia with a length of 87.02 kilometers. The toll road is managed by PT Jasa Marga Ngawi Kertosono Kediri.
