TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on Wednesday, Sept. 1, that it has appointed Jiro Tominaga as a new Country Director for Indonesia.

In Indonesia, Tominaga will manage ADB’s relationship with the government and development partners, and oversee the implementation of ADB’s 2020–2024 country partnership strategy. This will help Indonesia emerge stronger from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by supporting human development, economic competitiveness, disaster risks management, and environmental sustainability.

“ADB is a long-term development partner of Indonesia,” said Tominaga, as stated in the press release received by Tempo today, September 1.

“I look forward to building on our strong partnership and working closely with the government and other stakeholders to support the country’s development agenda," he said, adding that he would prioritize in helping the government in addressing the health, economic, and social impacts of the pandemic in the short and medium terms.

Jiro Tominaga, a Japanese national, joined ADB in 2015. He was ADB’s Director of Strategy, Policy, and Business Process, and before that, a Principal Planning and Policy Specialist. He began his 30-year career at the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund of Japan, now the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Tominaga also worked at the Japanese Ministry of Finance and the World Bank. His work focused on the use of information and communication technologies in public service delivery and independent evaluation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Keio University and a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics.

Tominaga replaced Winfried Wicklein, who has taken over as ADB’s Deputy Director General for Southeast Asia.
