TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Tuesday noon is set to announce August’s inflation that is expected to reach its lowest point compared to the previous month.
Head economist of Bank Mandiri, Andry Asmoro, forecasts the consumer price index will log a 0.03 percent inflation on a month-to-month basis.
“The consumer price index inflation on a yearly basis is expected to be around 1.60 percent year on year,” said Asmoro on August 31, Bisnis.com reported.
Meanwhile the inflation on core components is expected to reduce to 1.3 percent yoy from 1.4 percent that was logged in July this year. He explained that the cost of education will also see a seasonal growth while healthcare will likely drop.
Food prices are also expected to see a drop with transportation creeping back to normality which aligns with the enactment of the PPKM Covid-19 restrictions. “The main source of inflation in August 2021 is expected to come from the seasonal new education year in the form of educational costs,” he said.
