TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati in the ISEI webinar on Tuesday said that the country has seemingly made it through the second wave of Covid-19. She attributed this to the government’s enactment of the micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM) across a number of regions.

“We enacted the micro scale restriction under WHO recommendations as cases grew to over 50 thousand. This was effective enough to control Covid-19 transmissions,” said Sri Mulyani on August 31.

According to her, active coronavirus cases in Indonesia’s two most populated islands of Java and Bali have been significantly reduced as active cases dropped to 217,590 compared to July 24 that logged 574,135 cases.

Based on the growth of daily cases, Indonesia is claimed to suffer less than other countries. She cited the daily cases in the United States that reached 145,7 thousand or 440 for every 1 million people.

However, Sri Mulyani said Indonesia is currently still battling to reduce the number of daily cases and deaths caused by Covid-19 as the country ranks second highest in terms of daily deaths after the United States and eighth in cumulative deaths.
