TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Government did not rush to hold face-to-face learning at schools even though it has been allowed to because the capital city is now under the enforcement of level 3 public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 3.

Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the reopening of schools would wait for the completion of the Covid-19 vaccination for teachers, school staffers, and students.

“[We are] Just waiting for the right time. We are making sure that all teachers, school staffers, and students are vaccinated,” said Riza in the City Hall, Tuesday, August 24.

Riza explained the city administration did not want to be thoughtless in holding face-to-face learning activities during the Covid-19 restrictions. “Because we know that in many countries, schools that have reopened turned out to be new Covid-19 clusters,” he said.

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian through his latest instruction allowed regions under the PPKM Level 3 to hold limited on-site studies.

However, Riza said the Covid-19 vaccination for teachers and students is nearly finished and was expected to complete by August.

Jakarta had initially conducted a face-to-face school trial when the Covid-19 trend declined earlier this year. However, the trial was halted after the capital city was hit by the Covid-19 wave and the Emergency PPKM was enforced.
