TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan on Tuesday said the Covid-19 pandemic may possibly last for another next couple of years.

“The Covid [pandemic] will quite certainly not end in the next two years. That is what I personally believe from reading [reports] from experts. I am not an expert, but I have read several papers,” said the Minister on August 24.

He cited an expert from the United States, without elaborating which scientific research he referred to, saying that the pandemic is still far from over and could possibly turn into an endemic.

“We must prepare our strategy on how to live with that,” said Luhut Pandjaitan.

One of the government strategies, he went on, was optimizing the home-grown Covid-19 tracing app PeduliLindungi. The app is deemed to be able to boost Indonesia’s pandemic management.

Moreover, the government will continue to urge people to abide by mandatory face mask rule.
