TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s largest e-commerce firm Tokopedia focuses on working on the domestic market amid the government's plan to ratify the ASEAN Agreement on E-Commerce. The agreement will accommodate more conducive and competitive cross-border trade in the ASEAN region.

“Tokopedia continues to focus on going local to encourage digital economic growth in the region through collaboration with various strategic partners, ranging from local MSMEs, regional governments to other strategic partners,” said Tokopedia Director of Public Policy and Government Relations, Astri Wahyuni, in a written statement, Monday, August 23.

In the meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) yesterday, Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi revealed that the ASEAN Agreement on E-Commerce was expected to be immediately passed as national law in line with the government's digital economic growth target.

Astri explained Tokopedia is a domestic marketplace that only operates in one country. So it only accepts local sellers and facilitates transactions from Indonesia to Indonesia.

“This means that 100 percent of Tokopedia sellers, who are almost 100 percent of them are local MSMEs, live in Indonesia, so transactions via Tokopedia are fully included in Indonesia's income,” she said.
