Central Java Logs Highest Covid-19 Deaths Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Covid-19 Task Force recorded 1,492 more deaths due to the coronavirus disease on Thursday, August 19. The country’s death toll thus reached 122,633.

The three provinces that contributed the highest death numbers today were Central Java, West Java, and East Java.

Based on the task force’s data, Central Java reported the biggest number of deaths with 388 cases, followed by West Java with 239 cases and East Java with 223 cases.

Cumulatively, the death toll in Central Java was the highest with 26,719 cases. The second place was East Java which recorded 26,074 patients who succumbed to the illness.

The capital city of Jakarta was in third place with the number of deaths reaching 13,149 cases, followed by West Java with 11,799 cases.

The number of positive cases also continued to rise. As of today, the task force logged 22,053 new infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 3,930,300 cases. Meanwhile, 29,012 more patients recovered from Covid-19 today. Thus, the number of recoveries hit 3,472,915.
