TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia received 176 ventilators and their equipment donated by the United States for the Covid-19 pandemic handling. This donation was transported via Citilink Indonesia airline from Newark Liberty International Airport.

State-Owned Enterprises or SOE Minister Erick Thohir said global solidarity is highly needed in dealing with the crisis. This is also proof that countries are dependent on each other.

“However, getting international support is not a sign of incompetence because the Covid-19 pandemic is not just a health problem, but also a humanitarian issue. In fact, this is a form of support to continue our best efforts to save lives and get out of the pandemic,” said Erick in a statement on Wednesday, August 18.

The arrival of the plane containing the aid was welcomed by Erick Thohir along with the United States Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Yong Kim, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, representatives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and Citilink Directors.

The ventilators will be distributed by state-owned hospitals to areas in need of respirators. Citilink President Director Juliandra expressed hopes that the aid will be beneficial to the community, including increase the public accessibility of medical devices.
