TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some 29,200 West Jakarta residents have received Covid-19 vaccines in two days of Merdeka Vaccination program. It was carried out by the Jakarta Metro Police, which has been running since August 1.

"On the first day, we reached 11,500 people in eight sub-districts. On the second day yesterday, there were around 17,700 people," said West Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Ady Wibowo when confirmed on Tuesday, August 3.

However, Ady said it was still far from the target of 40,000 people per day.

Last Sunday, Jakarta Metro Police, along with the Jakarta Government and Kodam Jaya, officially started the Merdeka Vaccination. The program, which will last until August 17, targets to vaccinate 3 million Jakarta residents.

Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Mohammad Fadil Imran explained that his side established around 900 vaccination venues in community units (RW) with the largest number of people who have not been vaccinated. He hopes that a closer vaccination location will push the residents to get the Covid-19 shots.

"We involve volunteers, both health workers and non-health workers from doctors, nurses and community organizations," said Fadil explaining the source of vaccinators in the Merdeka Vaccination program.

He explained, one vaccine outlet is targeted to inoculate 200 residents, expecting that 3,060,000 people or all Jakarta residents will get the Covid-19 vaccines on August 17, and herd immunity can be achieved.
