UK to Donate 600,000 Covid-19 Vaccines to Indonesia This Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Kingdom will send nine millions Covid-19 vaccines to vulnerable countries this week, including Indonesia. According to a press release from the British Embassy, Indonesia will receive around 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, donated via COVAX.
The UK said it would donate 100 million doses overseas until June next year, 80 million of which would be through COVAX.
"We are doing this to help the most vulnerable, but also because we know we won't be safe until everyone is safe," Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on Thursday, July 29.
Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi appreciated the UK Government's policy, saying it shows that the UK and Indonesia have a common understanding that the pandemic cannot be faced alone.
As of the time of writing, AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccines are the most used worldwide, with more than half a billion doses shipped non-profit across the globe. Two thirds of those are distributed to low and middle income countries.
