TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said Indonesia needed Rp4,520 trillion to achieve its target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. The figure was based on the estimated contribution set in the reworked Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) pledge.

“It was estimated at Rp3,641 trillion in 2018. And updated again with the NDC roadmap, the figure increases to Rp4,520 trillion to achieve that target. That's a huge number,” said Minister Sri at the virtual Indonesia Green Summit 2021, Tuesday, July 27.

The state budget as one of the instruments had thus far developed budget tagging. This means, she explained, the budget had transparently described the portion of Indonesia's spending on climate change control, which was 4.1 percent by far.

“In 2018 to 2020, it reached Rp102.6 trillion or 4.3 percent of our total budget. That's only 34 percent of our annual funding needs,” said Sri.

Sri Mulyani went on to say that to achieve the NDCs pledge as mandated by the Paris Agreement, the finances could not only rely on the government. All corporations and communities must also become the whole ecosystem. “And we are fighting for it at the global level,” she said.
